This summer the cable network known for its sunny, feel-good shows is heading to a town famous for its shortage of good feelings. USA will take on Washington, D.C.
In a six-hour miniseries called “Political Animals,” the network will venture into the territory of more critically-acclaimed competitors like FX and AMC with a political drama from Greg Berlanti, best known for his work on “Everwood” and “Brothers & Sisters.” The drama, which could be extended beyond six hours, follows the members of a turbulent former first family as they try to keep it together in the midst of chaos.
The matriarch, Ellen Barrish, is a divorced former First Lady who is currently serving as secretary of state. (Sound vaguely familiar?) She strikes an unlikely friendship with a cutthroat Washington journalist who built a career attacking her.
